More Solar Panel woes

have you got PV solar panels ?

Have you checked the terms of your contract?

It seems that selling a property with solar panels for some people lands them in a ransom situation with regard to the legal agreement for the panels....  or lack thereof.....

Without Coal

The UK's National Grid overview web site Gridwatch shows that without coal it is rather likely today that we'd have widespread power cuts.

Elsewhere and pretty much ignored in all the hurly-burly of the MSM is a report from a whistleblower at ofgem that unscrupulous businesses have been pillaging subsidies from "Green Energy" schemes.

The whistleblower says that what was happening in England, Scotland and Wales "was worse than what was happening in Northern Ireland".

Really.... what an incredible mess our public servants are making of energy policy.

NOT SO SMART METERS

Give the technical and practical miserable debacle that the "Smart Meter" program has become (and some predicted it would) it isn't much of a surprise to find out that these wonderful and useful gadgets have yet another stupid flaw.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Smart Meters cannot cope with solar panels ....

Yes ...  these incredible pieces of "FREE!" technology that will save you hundreds of pounds on your electricity bills are a complete balls-up. The grasping zealots and IT illiterate clots are mandating that a million known dysfunctional meters continue to be fitted.

It makes the EA's antics at Avoncliff and the waste of some couple of million quids look pretty lame.

Hey Alexa / Hello Google tell me how much I've spent on electricity tonight compared to last week and who sells the cheapest electricity at the moment ?

In the meantime it looks like Smart Meters are getting a try-out at British Army bases according to a number of newspaper reports - "£35 to boil a kettle".

The government are so twitchy about the grim details of this profoundly flawed and near pointless project getting public traction that they're shutting down whistleblowing using "National Security"

The Swansea Green Power Barrage

just some numbers

  • Cost of lagoon – £1.3bn (projected not actual)
  • Electricity produced – 532 GWh pa, which is 0.15% of UK generation (projected not actual)
  • This is enough to supply on average 40,000 homes
  • Therefore the cost per household is £32,500
  • There are an estimated 107,500 households in Swansea, so the lagoon could not supply half of the town.
  • Even after the capital costs, ongoing costs will be substantial, for instance dredging and maintenance and replacement of turbines.

Solar Scams - a Minor Public Service Announcement

As you might or might not be aware - rooftop domestic solar electric has been systematically misrepresented and mis-sold.

Salesmen lied and or omitted the details of solar "deals" - presenting the panels as an unalloyed simple win which will pay for itself and likely show a small profit - in some cases claiming that installs will reduce your electricity bills by 50%.  BBC Radio 4 "You and Yours"  9th May 2018

Needless to say - not many of the claims hold up and tens of thousands of credulous people have been conned.

There is a law firm in Newcastle who are tooled up and already have 1200 disgruntled customers.

GROENE STROOM SCHOKKEN

Found on the Internet ...

Channel 4 "Dispatches" investigative program is running "The Real Cost of Green Energy" next week. We can expect (I reckon) to be told we need more solar panels and windmills .....

Given that the holy cow of "Green Energy" receives little or no actual critical examination in UK's media the Dutch program below takes a comedic - but accurate look at how "Green Energy" works - and perhaps more to the point hints at why our energy bills are ratcheting upwards when actual energy prices are low...

Turn the YouTube subtitles on!

With gas, oil and coal at historically low prices - have you vere wondered why you're paying more than ever for your electricity and heating?

Wiltshire Times - A(nother) Legal Challenge at Avoncliff

The Wiltshire Times has an article on The Weaver's Mill hydro scheme.

click HERE or on pic to go to Wiltshire Times piece

And Bradford on Avon hosted a visit by James Bevan, Chief Executive of The Environment Agency three days ago on the 14th February - where no doubt the matter of £1,000,000 flood alleviation funding was dangled / mentioned....

The fact that Mr. Timms of Rivers House at Avoncliff has been forced to resort to legal remedy to sort out the planning mess in his front garden is a testimony to the ineptness and determination of the Environment Agency to push through the license for Weavers Mill come hell and -  dare I say it - high water...

The matter of conflicting land and riparian rights between Rivers House and Weaver's Mill Avoncliff has been very obvious since at least 2012 and commented on by North Mill repeatedly in communications with the EA and in license applications - and then studiously and deliberately ignored by officials who are "no longer in post" who were in a position to influence the award of a license.

Planning Decision at Avoncliff

Well, Tim Martienssen - Director, Economic Development and Planning at Wiltshire Council has signed off a decision notice on the Weaver's Mill planning application.

Rather unusually for an application that generated so much discussion and so many submissions / objections (I know of several unopposed tiny garages that got a rougher time of it!)  - the matter wasn't put to a committee

HERE it is.

One actual, physical issue that comes to mind:

  • As I understand it  - there is an unresolved boundary dispute between Weaver's Mill and the adjacent property which would effectively stop the development as described in the application - it seems perverse that planning can be given when land ownership is disputed ....
